热带西北太平洋的这种黄䱂曾长期被认为是似鲤黄䱂（Hypseleotris cyprinoides）。2023年Keith & Mennesson的研究才确定了似鲤黄䱂真正的分布范围为印度洋，而中国、日本和菲律宾的这种黄䱂经鉴定为伊氏黄䱂Hypseleotris everetti。

This Hypseleotris from tropical Northwest Pacific was long considered to be Hypseleotris cyprinoides. However, a 2023 study by Keith & Mennesson confirmed that the true distribution of Hypseleotris cyprinoides is restricted to the Indian Ocean. The Hypseleotris found in China, Japan, and the Philippines has been re-identified as Hypseleotris everetti.
